Periodontitis treatment with laser
Periodontitis is a chronic infection caused by periodontopathogenic bacteria, which colonize the surface of the tooth and destroy the bone that supports the root by releasing enzymes and toxins with destructive effects on the cells.

Periodontitis treatment with laser
Find out how you can treat periodontitis, a persistent infection caused by periodontopathogenic bacteria, which affects your oral health and your whole body!
The enzymes and toxins released can damage the bone that supports the tooth root, and the toxic compounds end up in the digestive system, circulatory system and lungs.
The incidence of periodontitis is continuously increasing, and it is worrying that patients present themselves late to the dentist, determined by advanced signs of the disease such as marked gingival retraction, third degree pathological mobility or even spontaneous avulsions. Intervention in the early stages is essential to stop the progression of the disease!
At the EXCEDENT Clinic, we treat periodontitis with Biolase laser, EMS – Guided Biofilm Therapy, Vector Paro and Plasmolifting. We have complex solutions for all clinical stages!

Book NowHow is periodontitis treated with laser?
In the EXCEDENT Clinic, the treatment of periodontitis with laser is done in 3 stages, depending on its stage:
- In early periodontopathies: EMS (Guided Biofilm Therapy) + Laser Bacterial Reduction prophylaxis, complete sanitization by ultrasonic descaling, professional brushing, air-flow with bicarbonate and laser-cleaning. In this way, gingivitis prophylaxis is carried out, and the patient is trained free of charge to use the electric brush, dental floss or oral shower at home.
- In moderate periodontosis (gingival bleeding, 2-3 mm retraction): in addition to the previous stage: sterilization of periodontal pockets with Laser Biolase, Vector Paro therapy, laser desensitization of bare roots and frenectomies are performed laser to stop gingival retraction.
- In advanced periodontitis (dental mobility, periodontal pockets 5-7 mm) teeth are additionally immobilized with a PMMA splint, LAPT (laser assisted perio therapy), Plasmolifting, laser assisted curettage of periodontal pockets for removing diseased tissue and promoting healing. The treatment is done at intervals of 1-2 weeks, one dental arch/session.
Periodontitis reappears after laser treatment?
The complex nature of periodontal disease requires adequate treatment and periodic maintenance, both at home and in the dental office.
A treatment instituted from the first stages of the disease ensures very good results and absence of relapses in conscientious patients.
The treatment of advanced periodontitis is a complex one and is carried out through multiple medical and surgical procedures, to restore affected functions and occlusal balancing, the laser being only a very important component in maintaining the results obtained in the long term.
The doctors of the EXCEDENT clinic provide you from the first consultation with detailed information on the necessary treatments, being carefully concerned with the evolution of your dental and periodontal health.
What benefits does the laser bring in periodontitis?
LAPT (laser-assisted periodontal treatment) used before manual interventions brings you undeniable benefits:
- prevents a cross-contamination of the pardonal pockets, from a badly affected tooth to a neighboring healthy one,
- reduces the depth of periodontal pockets by 50%up to 7 mm.
- reduces bleeding and increases the visibility of the operative field before curettage.
- healthier and more durable gingival attachment postoperatively by slowing the proliferation of gingival epithelium and stimulating fibroblasts and osteoblasts.
- amplifies natural healing processes and local antibacterial immune response
- reduces the sensitivity of the roots discovered by sealing the dentinal canals.
How can I prevent periodontitis?
- By brushing your teeth twice a day, mandatory in the evening before going to bed.
- Daily cleaning of the spaces between the teeth, with dental floss, interdental brushes or oral shower depending on the size of the spaces. Cleaning the spaces between the teeth is mandatory as no manual or electric toothbrush can penetrate here.
- Periodic cleanings performed by the dentist (every 3-6 months depending on the case).
- Periodic checks (every 3-6 months depending on the case).
- Correction/control of some (general) risk factors of periodontal disease: smoking, cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, thyroiditis, diabetes, autoimmune diseases, etc.
