About Descaling

Scaling represents one of the most important prophylactic procedures, which is practiced under normal conditions, without special preparations. Scaling is the procedure for removing tartar and microbial plaque from dental surfaces.
Dental tartar is a complex adhering to the dental surface, prosthetic works or orthodontic appliances and is the result of bacterial plaque mineralization. It is of two types: the supra-gingival, yellowish-white, visible and the sub-gingival, dark in color which irritates the gums and causes them to bleed.

Dental tartar is deposited at any age, both on permanent and temporary dentition. The amount of tartar depends on the location of the tooth, variations in salivary flow, diet and smoking. It is certain that with age the amount of tartar increases.
EMS and descaling
4-6 months after the initiation of deposition, it reaches a maximum level of accumulation, therefore it is recommended to remove it through a sanitation every 6 months.

Ultrasonic descaling
It represents one of the simplest dental procedures, it is minimally invasive and is recommended for all patients. The tip of the descaling device produces ultrasonic vibrations that determine the total removal of tartar from the surfaces.

- does not affect dental structures (enamel);
- removes black spots from dental surfaces;
- it is easy to bear and painless, the patient does not require local anesthesia;
- the execution time of the procedure is short
Ultrasonic descaling is followed by professional brushing with special brushes and pastes.
Professional brushing
It aims to polish dental surfaces that have been previously cleaned of tartar and remove microbial plaque from dental surfaces.
Dental brushing with special pastes also removes stains from the teeth. Polishing pastes contain fine particles of calcium carbonate, magnesium carbonate and tin fluoride with a dentine desensitizing effect. In the case of dentine hypersensitivity resulting from descaling, the application of a desensitizing prophylaxis paste or fluoridation is recommended.
Ultrasonic descaling and professional brushing are completed during a complete sanitization session by using the AIR-FLOW machine (abrasive air under pressure). Thus, fine particles of sodium bicarbonate are carried by the compressed air in the form of a flow of particles that uniformly cleans the dental surface, thus achieving a mechanical cleaning. The AIR-FLOW system uses pressurized air, water and fine particles of sodium bicarbonate or aluminum trihydroxide.
