Implantology

Implantology is the domain with the greatest scientific and technological impetus in the last few years. That is because the patients who require treatment by dental implant are increasing all over the globe. Basically through their use is achieved the fixed prosthesis of edentation(missing teeth) and also an astounding aesthetic of dental works that bring the patient hope, comfort, health, a better quality of life and a beautiful smile.

What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is a metallic piece, screw typed, placed through surgery in the jaw bones(instead of a dental root), to help replace one or more missing teeth. The placement takes place after the extraction place has healed or immediately after extraction and is represented by a small surgical intervention, that is not very complicated. After awhile, another metallic piece is attached, named bridge, on which the doctor can place the crown that will replace the tooth. The implants and bridges are made of highly pure titanium, 5th grade.

Who can be a candidate for dental implants?

In general, any patient how has got one or more missing teeth, especially in the molars zone. Every clinical situation is unique, this being the reason why our team evaluates them carefully. Our patient will be informed how many dental implants are needed and which are the other treatment options, including the estimated prices. However, there are cases in which the patient is not the perfect candidate for a dental implant.

The most frequent local contraindications are massive bone resorption in very old edentations and the expansion of the maxillary sinus. This can be corrected by bone addition and sinus-lift. The general contraindications being: growing organisms(children), some cases of diabetes, some blood or bone conditions etc.

This proves the importance of taking a special radiograph, computerized tomography and a set of blood tests before the insertion of dental implants.

What is the surgical procedure and how long does it take?

After the tests mentioned above are taken into consideration, the intervention is programed. After a dental implant is inserted in the bone, it is covered with gum, and the postoperatively discomfort is minimal. This kind of intervention takes around one hour, sometimes more if there is a big number of implants required. The patient can afterwards carry on with his routine. It comes a period of accommodation, when the implant integrates in the bone and is minimal 4 months for the mandible and 6 months for the maxillary. During this time the patient may eventually benefit of a provisionally prosthetic work to ensure the dental functionality and aesthetics.

Afterwards, the dental implant is opened and the bridge is attached by screw. From now on, the prosthesis by crowns takes a few sessions, meaning a couple of days, similar with the treatments on natural teeth.

A short, but common question: does it hurt?

IT DOESN’T! For oral surgery interventons, the doctors use local injectable anaesthesic, so you will feel no pain during the procedure. The mild disconfort may be felt a few hours after the anaesthesic wears off can be easily managed with painkillers and anti-inflamatory drugs.

How much does the treatment cost?

It depends, of course, on how many implants are needed. Every clinical situation is unique. In Western Europe, an implant costs between 1500 and 3000 euros. Here at the EXCEDENT clinic, we use the same materials and techniques, but the price can be 350, 600, 1200 or 1500 euros, depending on the brand you choose. The implants used at EXCEDENT are considered top-quality around the world, and you can see below some clinical cases.

Will my organism reject the implant?

This is one of the most widespread rumors about the implants. There are many candidates for implants that refuse the treatment for fear of their body rejecting the implant. However,t he implant is only a high-purity Titanium screw. This metal was chosen specifically for its very high chances of being accepted by the organism. The success rate for dental implants is over 98% in 10 years, and when the treatment fails it is due to other factors such as poor hygiene, excessive smoking, not visiting the dentist for check-ups, etc.

Another thing to keep in mind is that this tratment option avoids polishing the neighbouring teeth, preserving their integrity for many years, amd is a good and aesthetically pleasing solution for
